Staff and classes

Setting up a job-share

How to set up a job-share. Enter two teachers, not one combined teacher. Combining them is the most common setup error in primary timetables.

Enter both people

  1. 01Add both teachers on the staff step, each with their own real working days.
  2. 02On the classes step, assign both of them to the same class.
  3. 03Leave the entitlements as they are. Each person is owed their own release on the days they work.

Why not enter them as one teacher

Because a job-share is two entitlements, not one. Entering the pair as one made-up full-time teacher gives a block of release to a person who is not there that day, and the other partner receives nothing. The timetable generates without complaint, and it is wrong.

When the class does not have enough specialist sessions

If a class only receives four specialist sessions a week and its two teachers between them need more than four, the arithmetic will not close for that class. Bell Path tells you rather than favouring one partner. The fix is usually more specialist coverage for that class, not a change to the job-share.

If the next action was not obvious, that is a flaw in Bell Path rather than in you, and knowing exactly where it happened is the most useful thing you can send us.
