Why a timetable will not generate

• Not enough specialist sessions to release every teacher. The most common cause by a wide margin.
• A class whose job-share partners between them need more release than that class receives in specialist sessions.
• A specialist restricted to so few classes or days that their sessions cannot reach everyone who needs them.
• Fixed events or time blocks that remove so many slots that what remains cannot hold the week.

1. 01Read the Final Check first. It names the constraint and usually the people affected.
2. 02Check whether the spare-time setting is on, because a school can look short when it is not.
3. 03Compare total release needed against total specialist sessions available. If supply is lower, stop scheduling and fix supply.
4. 04Look at any class where two teachers share the week and count the specialist sessions that class actually receives.
